An engineered clamp lamp in aluminum with an adjustable spot light in a cylindrical form that tilts for uplighting or downlighting and moves up and down the pole for height adjustments. By Peter Nelson for Architectural Lighting, English, circa 1970. Peter Nelson (1928 - 2009) was born in Austria and educated in England. He spent the early part of his career working in the aeronautics industry, contributing to the design and manufacture of cast aluminum passenger aircraft models. During this time he collaborated with Howard Hughes on the development of the triple-tailed, four-engined Lockheed Constellation aircraft. Nelson left the aeronautical industry to concentrate on lighting design and engineering, founding the company Architectural Lighting in 1961. Predominantly executed in aluminium, Nelson's exemplary modernist designs are noted for their refined technical appearance and precision engineered finish. The cuboid switch blocks hand-milled from solid aluminium that feature on many of his table and floor lights are a characteristic detail. These sophisticated and minimalist lights were enthusiastically received when launched and were stocked in Habitat and Heals during the 1960s. Height  63 cm Depth 3 cm

La Grande Torchere

La Grande Torchere

The outstanding 1963 model Torchere is the new star of Les Editions Serge Mouille. Minutiously replicated by Carl who was Mouille’s protegé to further expend Mouille's works prior to his death in 1988. So it will be an Atelier Serge Mouille lamp numbered of up to 50 pairs with the choice of right and left as per photographs here below. The fixing is also very special. Unlike any other Mouille's who specifically insisted that the lamp fixes against the wall will a brass ring ! Also Carl extended the way the Torchere were lit with a double detachable bulb also designed by Mouille. An amazing lamp
